Jean-Pierre: thanks for the great post! I wasn't aware of several of these
connections. The interaction between physics and music is clear but seeing
how this connected to nuclear physics and particle physics is fascinating.
Also intriguing is the work of Xenakis as well as the institutional home he
eventually found. This reminds of the RAND (in Santa Monica which was home
to much of the nuclear-war theorizing in the 1950s-60s...it eventually had
an artist-in-residence program c. 1970 but this ultimately clashed with
think-tank culture and was canceled. I'll try to find out more...
