Re: [Yasmin_discussions] UDMR

Jorge,

An interesting view. It may be the degree of connectivity that creates a cyborg.

A monkey head has been transplanted onto an another monkey body, with a view to perhaps doing the same for a human one day! If such a head is joined to a machine system would this be creating a cyborg or not?

Exchange of organic parts e.g heart tranplants, or 'artifically grown' parts in humans, as is beginning to happen with stem cell biotech, or, use of heart pacemakers to the use of sophisticated medical machine systems for keeping a human body alive when brain dead, may lead to a quandary. What is being added to what?

Do ideas about body, soul and mind come into play?

Dear Avi:

Thanks for your interesting comments.
Today, the world of cyborgs is not yet large.
A man driving his car. This set (man+car) is not a cyborg.
A man speaking in a cell phone. This set (man+phone) is not a cyborg.
An aboriginal native hunting with bow and arrow. This set
(aboriginal+bow/arrow) is not a cyborb.
I'm writing in my computer. This set (me+computer) is not a cyborb.

I'm waiting for colaborators to write the *Universal Declaration of Machine
Rights*.

Jorge Antunes
