Re: [Yasmin_discussions] Boundaries

Rob,

Great interview and it is cool to see Christian Nold on your team (he is
also in the exhibition and we met back in 2004).

this section to me is of great interest:

RVK: Can you find connections to the FB generation? Do you want to?

"It has a useful API as do all these new big sites; however there are
restrictions entering the domains and boundaries of others especially when
they try to cross over and get monitised."

RvK: The key (or one of the keys) is the granularity of input for these
'smart' systems. How do you see this?

"Yes, small unit blocks, simplified then re built , re-cored re-formed
into an understanding that can re-communicate the complexity of the larger
system. Strip the city down and re- configure it as a real-time
visualization and plug it into other cities.".

This small section of your exchange touches on a lot of deeply prescient
elements and issues in this cartographic as well as transitional moment
(for better or worse in several spheres).

Facebook is now about as semiotically loaded as things get but it also has
an odd duality. Many artists still use it despite the several waves of
unsettling privacy and file re-usage issues. Social networking and
locative media are right now the big topic in many advertising areas as is
data mining. This is disturbing as it ties into uncomfortable issues of
what our experience in the online space is as far as transparency and
autonomy and how the near future may even see things really akin to the
film Minority Report with site specific intuitive ad streams not only
online but in smart skin architecture.

The other side of the coin finds the meta-research and examination stanza
and others are exploring as to smarter non semantic web searches, geo
spatial archiving and resources and of Marcos Novak's concepts of Eversion
and liquid architecture. The dystopic moment right now of people
wandering around like zombies on smart phones also is tied into a need for
a more mixed reality sense of space and moving within shared spaces
