Re: [Yasmin_discussions] "YASMIN opportunity: Art and Science at environmental and ecological field stations and marine labs"

Hi,
Thanks John, for correcting, Mari Keski-Korsu, she is!
At least the link to her Albedo Dreams project was fine in my earlier post.

I would like to introduce another beautiful collaboration with a Finnish Research Station, Seili, that is a Archipelago Research Station of University of Turku, Finland.
The Institute participates in multidisciplinary research of the Baltic Sea, with a special focus on the Archipelago Sea. It is really a wonderful island, no cars,
connected with ferries to other islands and to the mainland. The island installations are used for biological research since 50 years, earlier it was a place to isolate people with leper and
mentally afflicted women. https://www.utu.fi/en/units/cerut/archipelago-research-institute/Pages/home.aspx

Capsula organized Baltic Sea related cross-disciplinary expeditions, in the framework of Curated Expeditions project in 2010-2011.
The project commissioned 4 new art works and a dance performance that were exhibited during the Turku2011 European Capital of Culture.

Three of the commissioned artists spend time at the Seili research station as residents; Finnish media artist Mia Mäkelä in summer, researching the green algae, and the eutrophication of Baltic Sea,
resulting the work Green Matters - The Handbook for Algae Gatherers: http://i40474.wix.com/greenmatters

And choreographer Tomi Paasonen with Tiago de la Cruz, in the midwinter, working at the icy and empty installations of the Station for the dance performance Vol.at.ilit.y:

The director of the Station, Prof. Ilppo Vuorinen also took actively part in the third work, The Rescue Boat Baltic Herring raft,
to explain the singularities of the Baltic Sea ecosystem while navigating with the artists Teemu Takatalo, Tommi Taipale and Juha Mehtäläinen.
